Lesson 7: Simple Escapement Retard Shutters

This lesson introduces the "Simple Escapement Retard" shutter. This is an interlens leaf shutter with no slow-speed capability. They typically have speeds from 1/30 to 1/250 of a second.

To complete the practical assignment for this lesson, you will need to obtain a Pronto leaf shutter. Note that although the Pronto and the Prontor shutters are made by the same manufacturer, you will need a Pronto, not a Prontor, for this lesson.

This lesson has several parts:

Study Procedures: As with the previous lessons, you should read this first, before beginning with the rest of the lesson.

Lesson Text: The main text for the lesson.

Supplements: There are three supplements used for the practical assignment.

  • Installation of Diaphragm Leaves
  • Cycles of Operation
  • Pronto Shutter Operation
